Ex-World Champion was almost excluded from paddock. Former World Champion Nico Rosberg has not received any official suspension because of the passing on of his access pass. Contrary to original representations, Rosberg came away with a warning and may enter the paddock again on his next planned visit to Monaco at the end of May.
Then he would also get his passport back, told the media department of Formula 1. At the Grand Prix in Azerbaijan and in two weeks in the Spanish Barcelona a visit Rosberg was not planned anyway, they said. The reason for the excitement was that the 33-year-old had passed on his access passport to a photographer friend and this therefore went out of the starting grid at the Grand Prix of China.
This process was confirmed by Rosberg's consultant Georg Nolte of the German Press Agency. "I wanted to give a friend the opportunity to go to the grid at the last minute and gave him my passport," Rosberg said. As a former world champion, the German has life-long permission to come to Formula One races. After his retirement in 2016, he works as a TV expert, including for RTL. On the evening of the incident, two weeks ago in Shanghai, Rosberg apologized to those responsible for Formula One for his wrongdoing.
